Y6 CURRICULUM OVERVIEW FOR

AUTUMN TERM 2007:

LITERACY

Non-Fiction Biography & Autobiography
Fiction Different genres of fiction
Poetry Power of Imagery
Plus a range of comprehensions in preparation for SAT's

NUMERACY

  • Place value, Multiplication & Division (Mental startegies and paper and pencil methods)
  • Fractions decimals and percentages
  • Handling data; probability, reasoning about shape (co-ordinates and quadrilaterals)
  • Addition and subtraction
  • real life problems involving measures and money.

SCIENCE

  • Micro-organisms
  • Adaptations to habitats
  • Reversible and non-reversible changes

ICT

Multimedia presentations:

Use of Powerpoint to organise, refine and present a set of linked multimedia pages with sound, image and text

RE

  • Story of the People of God -structure of the Bible, styles of Literature and stories of significant people in the Old Testament
  • Followers of Christ - the call of the disciples

PE

  • Dance - create and perform dances using a range of stimuli
  • Gymnastics - balance/counterbalance
  • Swimming

TOPICS

  • Historical Conflict - WWII
  • Healthy Living
  • Multifaith - Sikhism
  • Advent

 

Y6 Homework and Spellings:

Spellings will be given every Thursday. The children will receive spellings on a sheet, which they need to practice for a test on the following Thursday.

Literacy Homework will be set twice a week - one of which will be a comprehension exercise. If you could encourage your children to read at home regularly this would be greatly appreciated.

Numeracy Homework will be set regularly to support work in the classroom. This is likely to take the form of worksheets.

Science Homework will be set weekly.

Other Homework such as investigative/project type work may be set occasionally.
