On Monday 15th January a journalist, Lindsey Smith came and visited Year Six to teach us about making a piece of journalistic writing interesting.
She spent the whole day with us, starting with a slideshow all about Lindsey and the key features of journalistic writing. She told us how to improve our writing, and in the afternoon, we typed our articles onto the laptops, printed them, and cut them out to arrange them as the front cover of ‘The St. Benedict’s Herald’ complete with adverts and headlines.
We were given our press releases and we had to choose the best bits, and write reports based on them. The first paragraph introduced the subject; the second explained more about the event, the third was a quote, and the other paragraphs just explained the events in more detail.
We had a really good time, and we hope that Lindsey can come back soon.
