St Benedict’s Toy and Cake Sale
1st December 2006
Shopping bags at the ready and purses brimming with coppers and silver, the children of St Benedict’s waited patiently for the bell to ring. The time was 9.29am and all was silent. As 9.30 arrived and the school bell sounded, the scene at St Benedict’s soon changed. As one parent commented, “It’s just like the January Sales, and I avoid those!” children shopped till they dropped as many a bargain was to be had!

The annual ‘St Benedict’s toy and cake sale’ had arrived! All the toys that had been cleared out from their old homes were now on sale, awaiting brand new homes! Parents gathered in the hall to buy cakes and catch up with friends over coffee, whilst their children shopped and brought them bags of toys to take home, (most of which they’d sent in to be sold and thought they’d seen the last of!)

Children shopped furiously until everything had gone. There were books, cuddly toys, ‘Bratz’ dolls, games and videos up for grabs – Christmas had come early for the children of St Benedict’s.

Our Student Council held their own stalls, providing refreshments, an opportunity to buy homemade friendship bracelets and a chance to have a ‘character portrait’ done. They made a great effort and contributed well towards school funds.

Thank you to all those who helped organise the event, and to those parents who attended on the day. A Grand total of £350 was raised towards school funds. Who said shopping was a waste of time?!!
